Conditions – Good
Description:
*”Me Before You”* by Jojo Moyes is a romantic novel published in 2012. The story follows the life of Louisa “Lou” Clark, a quirky, cheerful young woman from a small town in England, who is struggling to find her way in life after losing her job at a local cafe. She takes a job as a caregiver for Will Traynor, a once-active and successful man who became quadriplegic after a motorcycle accident.
Will, who is bitter and depressed due to his condition, initially clashes with Lou, but over time, they form a deep bond. Lou learns of Will’s plan to end his life through assisted suicide in Switzerland, which prompts her to try and change his mind by showing him that life is still worth living.
The novel explores themes of love, loss, disability, and the ethical implications of assisted suicide. It received critical acclaim for its emotional depth and the way it handles complex issues. “Me Before You” was also adapted into a film in 2016, starring Emilia Clarke as Louisa and Sam Claflin as Will.
The book is the first in a trilogy, followed by *”After You”* and *”Still Me.”*
