A Man Called Ove is a novel by Swedish author Fredrik Backman first published in 2012. It tells the story of Ove, a grumpy yet loveable old man who finds his solitary world turned upside down when a lively young family moves in next door. Through humor, heartbreak, and unexpected friendships, the novel explores themes of grief, love, and the importance of community.
It was adapted into a successful Swedish film in 2015, and later into an English-language film titled A Man Called Otto (2022), starring Tom Hanks.
