“13 Reasons Why” is a young adult novel written by Jay Asher, originally published in 2007. The book gained significant popularity and has since been adapted into a Netflix original series under the same title, which premiered in 2017.
The story revolves around a high school student named Clay Jensen and his friend Hannah Baker, who has recently committed suicide. Before her death, Hannah recorded 13 cassette tapes, each side dedicated to a person or event that she explains played a role in her decision to end her life. Clay is one of the recipients of these tapes, and as he listens to them, he is taken on a journey through Hannah’s experiences and the various forms of bullying, betrayal, and trauma she endured.
