“The Girl on the Train” is a psychological thriller novel by British author Paula Hawkins, published in 2015. The story is told from the perspective of three women, with the primary narrator being Rachel Watson, an alcoholic who takes the train to London every day. From the train, she observes a couple, Scott and Megan Hipwell, who live a few doors down from her former home, where her ex-husband Tom now lives with his new wife, Anna, and their baby.
Rachel becomes fixated on the seemingly perfect couple, creating a fantasy about their lives. However, when Megan goes missing, Rachel becomes entangled in the investigation, as she believes she may have witnessed something crucial. Due to her alcoholism and memory blackouts, Rachel’s reliability as a witness is questionable, and she struggles to piece together the events of the night Megan disappeared.
